Legion of Demigods is a Doom2 mod for play on the GZDOOM source port that began development in September 2005 by William Elliott Waterman, a one man team (and yours truly (; ) eager to take advantage of the modding utilities available for Doom's engine. The game takes place in the fruitbowl multiverse and follows the interconnecting saga of 32 demigods (16 male, 16 female, from 16 different worlds). Different sets of powers and abilities for each pair of playable characters makes for interesting multiplayer play in both co-operative and deathmatch modes of gameplay.
The first three episodes follows the story of Sine and Square who save their planet from alien invaders known as the breadmonsters. I know it sounds stupid and two heroes is hardly a "legion" at the moment, but the first episode took more than 4 years in the making and back in the beginning I didn't have much of a story thought out.
The art-style and setting is entirely different from that of Doom's, but the general gameplay formulas are still closely similar. In fact, it is partly meant to satirize the stereotypes of the FPS genre. It has gone through title changes and much of the game's art has been repeatedly scrapped and remade. Some features that weren't available in 2.5D shooters of the mid-90's include swimmable water, realistic light effects, 3D floors that players can walk on top of and underneath, and interesting gameplay features like putting enemies to sleep and a textbox dialog system. I worked really hard on this, so I thank you if you download it and I hope you enjoy ;)
I've been working on a deathmatch pack that is something much in the style of Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament, but with a ton of different player classes to choose from that gives it a very Hexen flavor. This is an endeavor large in the making and I hope it's something all you doomers out there will enjoy, if you have a friend to play it with that is.
